Happy Thursday!

March 11, 2010

I was so looking forward to the prospect of spring.

Then, in true South Dakota fashion, Mother Nature tore the hope from me with huge snowflakes today that have already managed to cover every inch of green ground that had recently struggled to be seen.  So, just for fun I am posting my favorite quotes about being pretty and running today.  I have collected them for a while and today I thought I’d share them with you along with some pictures I took last summer. I hope I can bring a touch of sunshine into your day.  Do you have a favorite quote that always cheers you up when you think of it?  I’d love to hear it!

Being Pretty

“I believe in pink. I believe laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing; kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles.”

– Audrey Hepburn

No one ever told me I was pretty when I was a little girl. All little girls should be told they’re pretty, even if they aren’t.

~Marilyn Monroe

“No object is so beautiful that, under certain conditions, it will not look ugly.”

~Oscar Wilde

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”

~Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Running

“It’s rude to count people as you pass them. Out loud.”

Running is real and relatively simple…but it ain’t easy.

~Mark Will-Weber

You have a choice. You can throw in the towel, or you can use it to wipe the sweat off of your face.

~Gatorade

Run like hell and get the agony over with.

~Clarence DeMar

The greatest pleasure in life, is doing the things people say we cannot do.

~Walter Bagehot

Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you’d better be running.

(But, unless you’re a runner, you won’t understand.)

~Anon

To describe the agony of a marathon to someone who’s never run it is like trying to explain color to someone who was born blind.

~Jerome Drayton

The marathon can humble you.

~Bill Rodgers

Running is like mouthwash; if you can feel the burn, it’s working.

~Brian Tackett

When people ask me why I run, I tell them, there’s not really a reason, it’s just the adrenalin when you start, and the feeling when you cross that finish line, and know that you are a winner no matter what place you got.
