Hey Runners! Do you GU?

March 29, 2010

So, I totally know that I am nowhere needing any of these things but while looking up advice on some of the problems I’m having with running, I’ve seen some products that just look neat.  My question is: At what point do you think things like these become beneficial?  10K? half marathon? marathon?

They are advertised as:

“Sport Beans energizing jelly beans are packed with nutrients that you need to blast through any athletic endeavor. Each bag contains carbohydrates, electrolytes and Vitamins B and C. Used by the Jelly Belly Pro Cycling Team and other athletes, Sport Beans are a clinically proven, great tasting way to maximize sports performance.”

They are advertised as:

“The G Series provides an innovative 1-2-3 approach to meeting athletes’ hydration and nutrition needs before, during and after activity.

– It starts with Gatorade Prime 01, which provides pre-workout or pre-game fuel in a convenient and functional 4-oz. pouch.

– Gatorade Perform 02 is Gatorade Thirst Quencher and G2 – which during activity provides fuel for working muscles, fluid for hydration and electrolytes to help replace what athletes lose in sweat.

– Athletes know it’s critical to promote muscle recovery to get ready for their next workout or competition, and Gatorade Recover 03 is the first protein recovery beverage with the consistency of a traditional sports drink and great taste people expect from Gatorade.”

They are advertised as:

“Simple to take, simple to digest, GU Energy Gel provides just what you need for premium exercise fuel and none of the extras that slow you down. GU takes you where you want to go, fast.

Launched in 1991, the world’s first energy gel is still the most efficient sports fuel available today. GU’s carbohydrate blend delivers high-quality, easily-digested and long-lasting energy for athletes in every sport and at all levels.”

With all the available products available out there for real runners, it makes me wonder if there is anything that would help a barely, minor successful wannabe runner like me to become a bit more successful.
